General Info

Circulation

Students may check out library books for two weeks. A book may be renewed if no one else has requested the book.

While the library does not fine students for overdue books, students are expected to return all library materials on time and are responsible for all borrowed materials.

Books can be put on reserve using the online catalog. Books on hold will be delivered to the student when they become available.

Interlibrary Loan

If you cannot find the materials you are looking for in the IRS Library, ask a staff member for help in finding these materials on Sora or at other libraries.

Patrons are encouraged to check the catalog of the local town libraries.

Selection of Materials

The LMS works to build collections of resources that meet the needs as well as the developmental and maturity levels of students. These collections provide resources that support the mission of the school district and are consistent with its philosophy, goals, and objectives. Resources in our school library collections are an integral component of the curriculum and represent diverse points of view on both current and historical issues. These resources include materials that support the intellectual growth, personal development, individual interests, and recreational needs of students.

Professional journals and databases are used to select library materials such as: Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) Notable Children’s Books, Booklist Online, School Library Journal, We Need Diverse Books website, Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) Best Books for Young Adults, American Library Association (ALA). Other resources taken into consideration to determine the suitability of the collection are as follows: professional opinion, staff/student requests, staff/student surveys,
and national or state book award lists.
